Relaxed maternity shoot - Rachel & Bump

Oh, what a joy it was to spend the afternoon with Rachel for her maternity photo shoot in the most gorgeous natural light studio. The studio was bathed in the softest summer light, streaming through big windows and creating this dreamy, golden haze. It's the kind of light photographers dream about! With a cosy setup that included textured rugs, and some beautiful greenery, the space felt warm and inviting—just perfect for capturing the calm and excitement of this special time.

Rachel’s style was effortlessly chic. She brought along a few outfits, including blue denim jeans and an oversized flowing white shirt, a black dress, and a bodycon dress that showcased her bump perfectly. We started with some soft, candid moments of her by the window, her hands gently cradling her bump.

One of my favorite moments was when Rachel perched on a stool barefoot and totally at ease, as we chatted about her nursery plans and the little one on the way. It’s these kinds of unscripted moments that really make a session special—capturing not just the way someone looks, but how they feel in this fleeting season of life.

We also had fun experimenting with the natural light against the floorboards. The contrast of her profile against the soft, glowing light was absolutely stunning and gave a timeless, artistic touch to her collection of images.

By the end of the session, we had created such a variety of images—from gentle, intimate close-ups to wide, airy shots that showed off the beauty of the space and Rachel’s bump. It was relaxed, full of laughter. For the final edit we decided to keep the bruises you can see on her perfect bump as a special memory of part of her fertility journey.

These are the sessions that remind me why I love what I do. It’s about more than just pretty photos; it’s about telling a story, capturing a feeling, and creating something that will be treasured forever. Rachel, thank you for letting me be a part of this beautiful chapter in your journey. I can’t wait to see you again when your little one arrives!

If you’re an expecting mama and love the idea of a relaxed, natural light session like Rachel’s, let’s have a chat. I’d love to help you document this precious time in a way that feels authentic and true to you.
